    Description

    This soda crock dates back to the same period as iron pontil sodas. It is patent pressed “W. SMITH.” This particular example was dug by the late Tommy Mitchiner in a Savannah, GA privy. We found several of these back in 1990 while digging in the famous Line Street colored soda dig in Charleston. This one has a pretty orange-tan glaze. There is a chip on the back side. (Chips are very common in these early pottery pieces.) see last photo.
