Description
A smaller size of soft lined moosehide moccasins made by Jack Ginnish, Mi'kmaq. These are pucker toe style and nicely made! They are about a child's size 10 . They are 6.5" long, 3.5" wide at toe, cuffs are 1.5" over the top of heel. The vamps have a nice white and red beaded pattern. The inner edge of the vamp as well as the outer edge of the entire cuff has a red and white beaded outer border.Lining is felted wool. The moose hide is so soft and pliable. These will be a joy to wear. - Look great too.
These are signed "J Ginnish" on inside of the OUTER cuff of the right moccasin. (Lift cuff to see) - Dated too.... - INNER cuff, same moccasin says "Size 13" .... But a size 13 would be 7.5" long and these are 6.5" ... a child's size 10 to 10.5.
After losing contact with Jack for a few years, in a recent visit I was able to get some of his current moosehide items. All remaining from those are a small medicine bag, 1 other slightly larger youth pair of moccasins and some tiny moccasin pairs that are decorative as well as this moose rawhide shield. Moosehide shields are items I had previously gotten from Jack and they are quite unique and difficult to find.
MicMac/Mi'kmaq (USA spelling/Canadian spelling) are a tribe that has dual citizenship by virtue of their tribal rights. Jack Ginnish resides in Big River, New Brunswick, Canada and Belfast, Maine, USA. Last 2 photos of slide show are of Jack defleshing/dehairing a moose hide and of him in his competitive traditional dance regalia. - Note that he wears a small deerhide medicine pouch with his traditional dance regalia in that photo.
